DIY: fall maternity skirt

I used a thrifted sweater for this project - something with a lot of stretch but still thick enough to hide underwear lines.  Because you know how annoying those can be.

DIY: macaroni box bathroom mirror organizer

So maybe I should just call this website 'Fun with boxes!' or 'Another box project?'  Seriously.  But I just can't get enough.  They're so quick and easy and kid friendly.  Also a) I always feel accomplished after a project like this and b) it's about as close to instant gratification as one can get.

DIY: $16 maternity coat!

I've never experienced pregnancy in winter before so I was more than a little shocked when I discovered maternity coats were averaging a couple hundred dollars!  I'm not sure why when I really think about it.  My good winter coat cost more than that.  At any rate, I can't afford to pay that amount for something I'm only going to use for a few months, so I decided to make my own!  I found this wonderfully warm down coat at the thrift store for $16.  It was a few sizes too big, very basic, and absolutely perfect for an upcycle like this!

DIY: tea bag seedling starters

DIY: clutch

I've been wanting to make a clutch for what seems like forever.  I have a beautiful leather skirt from the thrift store I plan to turn into a few clutches for the holidays, but I wanted to make sure I knew what I was doing before attempting to sew the real thing.  So, I practiced on some really fun scraps!

DIY: cereal box art station

My daughter's art supplies have been a source of contention between me and my very organized husband.  Seems they are all over the house.  Of course they're mostly resting on tops of book cases, shelves, and generally anywhere there is space that is out of her reach.  Why can't we just keep everything in one area?

Today I decided enough was enough and built an art station to house her markers, stickers, and papers.

DIY: fun with contact paper and a diaper box

As I mentioned in my previous post, I have a habit of collecting boxes.  Why not just get baskets?  Baskets are durable and they probably last longer.  It's mostly because I am trying to use what I already have.  It's my way of being green, I suppose.  Plus I should mention I have a two year old who likes to tear things apart.  It's not such a big deal if this box gets dinged and dented.  

DIY: macaroni gift box

Nothing drives my husband crazier than when I demand he save a box so I can use it 'for a project'.  I currently have twelve macaroni boxes hanging out in my 'craft closet' for exciting upcycles!  

Today I'm going to transform one of them into a gift box for those tall, awkward shaped gifts.  Watercolor paints?  Paintbrushes?  Who knows.  I'll find a use for it soon, I'm sure.
